An Appraisal of Safe and Effective Opioid Analgesic Prescribing By the Numbers

Robert Smith, DPM, MSc, RPh

This foundational presentation will empower the participant to appreciate, recognize, incorporate, and understand relevant prescribing laws, best practice guidelines and tools to ultimately prescribe opioids to mitigate opioid harm as well as opioid use disorders. Further, the participant will be able to recognize problematic or aberrant drug-taking behaviors and be able to distinguish unintentional misuse, abuse, and diversion.

For Florida podiatrists, no more than 8 hours (20% of the hours of continuing education required per biennium) of home study programs may be credited toward the licensee’s biennial continuing education requirement for license renewal. A test must be completed and passed demonstrating competency in the topic taught in order to receive credit for the course.
