Risk Management and Mitigating Risk Opportunities for The Podiatric Physician

"The purpose of this presentation will allow for the participate to appreciate the central theme of risk management allowing for a patient safe environment when podiatric physicians conduct infection control, inform consent, time out procedures, and opioid prescribing. An appraisal of risks and risk mitigating tools as found in clinical base medical as well as legal text are provided so that the podiatric physician may develop mitigating tools to patient harm when conduct duties centered on infection control, providing inform consent, surgical time out procedures and opioid ordering and prescribing. The goal of this hour-long presentation is to fulfill the one-hour Risk Management CPME requirement for podiatric physicians licensed in the state of Florida."

For Florida podiatrists, no more than 8 hours (20% of the hours of continuing education required per biennium) of home study programs may be credited toward the licensee’s biennial continuing education requirement for license renewal. A test must be completed and passed demonstrating competency in the topic taught in order to receive credit for the course.

  1. To present data congruent with state requirements for allowing an appreciation of the possibility for risk assumed when ordering and prescribing opioids within our profession.
